Hej
Thai Rath : New military-backed party is likely

On August 21, Thai Rath‘s page 3 political analysis stated that [today] the NLA will choose Prayuth to be the 29th PM, but there are movements on those who want energy reform of those who had considered themselves allied with the coup leaders. However, their protest of coming to Bangkok was not allowed as it was contrary to martial law.
Thaksin is banking on the fact that the people will get bored with the military government for economic reasons and that reforming the political sector is difficult. After one year, the junta has to give up power.
What needs to be looked at is the rumours of establishing a military party which will need to happen by next year in time for the election. What is a hot issue now over who will be in this faction/grouping is related to the Tigers of the East [burapha Payak] and it is not possible to escape the rumours of the blue camp, Newin Chibchob and Anutin Charnvirakul of Bhum Jai Thai that they are connected.
Thai Rath‘s political analysis of September 17 entitled “Third party/grouping and the green camp” (ขั้วสามกับค่ายสีเขียว). The analysis starts of noting that the military’s honeymoon period won’t last forever then states that there is no much time and then states,, per BP’s translated summary below:
Interior Minister Gen. Anupong proposed a reshuffle of senior interior ministry officials including provincial governors in the first cabinet meeting. From a political viewpoint, controlling the forces in the interior ministry is a strategical advantage that will affect future elections. Those who have power have to plan so they an advantage over their opponents in the future. There is no exception to this if there is a military government.
The issue is that on the rumours beneath the surface that those in power don’t want a political force to be too large so that there will be a parliamentary dictatorship. They want politics to be like SMEs, focusing on small and medium-sized parties, and that join together to form a coalition government after an election.
The senior military brass will not leave power so they are exposed. They will establish a military party [pro-military party?] to prepare when they get off the tiger’s back so they are not bitten. This third party will shade/block the power of the establishment [amart]. Puea Thai are monitoring the situation.
