Superakademikerna Pasuk och Baker hävdar att röstköpen spelat ut sin roll men att det fortfarande sker för att man inte ska anses vara snål. Deras främsta argument är att rösterna är så starkt dividerat. I stora delar av Isaan vann Pt med mer än 60 % av rösterna. Där fick "Demokraterna" bara 10 %. I södra Thailand var resultatet det omvända. Så varför köpa fler röster än vad man behöver?
Dessutom hävdar de att intresset för att rösta fick ett stort uppsving i och med konstitutionen från 1997. Fram tills idag har röstandet ökat och legat på över 70 %. Frågan blir väl då hur det kommer att se ut om det blir nyval i februari. Är det någon idé att rösta?
Man hoppas innerligt att superakademikerna har rätt, och de bygger ju sitt case på en del statistik och fakta.
Andra tycker det precis motsatta. Tex Andrew Biggs som skriver krönikor i Brunch Magazine (bilaga till Bangkok Post). Han hävdar att roten till hela problemet är just röstköpet i form av den där 500-sedeln som utdelas på valdagen:

Both sides do it, and in the current climate Pheu Thai has more money than the Democrats, so they win. Amazing; in two sentences I just summed up the whole problem."

But hey, if the boring old Swedes can get used to driving on the right, so too can the Thais start to elect politicians based on merit, rather than a purple banknote"
