The Thai junta has summoned one Pheu Thai politician after another, saying that they are sabotaging the regime with false and biased comments.

According to Matichon Online, the military on Thursday, 10 September 2015, summoned Karun Hosakul, a former Member of Parliament of the Pheu Thai Party, to the 11th Army Division headquarters.

Matichon reported that Pimchana Hosakul, the politician’s wife, was not informed about the military summons.

Yesterday, 9 September 2015, the authorities also summoned Pichai Naripthaphan, a former Energy Minister from the Pheu Thai Party, and brought him to the 1st Army Region headquarters in central Bangkok.

Pichai’s last Facebook message on Wednesday morning at around 8 am says, “I’m being invited for ‘attitude adjustment’ again this morning; military officers will come and pick me up at 9:30 am.”

He also posted a picture of himself with two military officers on Facebook which was his last post at 9:42 am. Pichai is expected to remain in military custody for so called ‘attitude adjustment’ for about 7 days.

This is the seventh time Pichai has been summoned by the junta. The Bangkok Post cited some local new sources that the military might transfer Pichai to a military base in Saraburi Province in Thailand’s central plains.

According to Col Winthai Suvaree, the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) spokesperson, the latest summons of the former Energy Minister is crucial for creating mutual understanding, saying that Pichai has been making ‘one-sided’ allegations to discredit the government and did not comply with conditions of cooperation with the NCPO, which he was ordered to comply with after the previous summons.

Today, 10 September 2015, Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha, the junta leader and Prime Minister, announced to the media that the military has already been merciful to the politicians detained.

The junta’s supreme leader added that ‘direct criticism’ against the government which continues to harm the nation will not be tolerated.

Thailand’s junta should immediately disclose the whereabouts of a former government minister whom the military detained on September 9, 2015, Human Rights Watch said today. Pichai Naripthaphan, who was energy minister from 2011 to 2012, is being held in incommunicado detention.

On September 10, Prime Minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha told the media that Pichai was detained because of his “expression of opinions that challenge the authorities…. Whether there will be harsh or soft measures [against Pichai], it is my decision.... No one can oppose me. If they won’t learn, they will be detained again and again… I might tape their mouths shut, too.” Col. Winthai Suwaree, spokesperson for the ruling National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), said that Pichai was in military custody, but refused to provide any information regarding his whereabouts or status. The junta also refused access to Pichai’s family members and legal counsel.

“The Thai junta continues to use arbitrary arrest and secret detention to intimidate and silence people who peacefully criticize military rule,” said Brad Adams, Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “As the junta tightens its dictatorial powers, Thailand’s climate of fear is intensifying.”

On September 9 at 8:05 a.m., Pichai posted a comment on his Facebook page: “Being summoned for ‘attitude adjustment’ again. Soldiers will come to pick me up this morning at 9:30 a.m.” Then, at 9:42 a.m., he posted his photo standing next to two soldiers from the army’s 12th Signal Division (King’s Guard) before they took him away from his house in Bangkok. He has not been seen in public since.

Human Rights Watch has repeatedly condemned the use of arbitrary arrest and secret military detention by Thailand’s junta. Since the May 22, 2014 coup, the NCPO has detained hundreds of politicians, activists, journalists, and people accused of supporting the deposed government, disrespecting or offending the monarchy, or being involved in alleged anti-coup activities.

The NCPO has held many of those people incommunicado in military camps in violation of Thailand’s international human rights obligations. The junta has consistently failed to provide information about people in secret detention, claiming such practices are desirable to ensure safety of the detainees and to allow them to undergo forced “attitude adjustment” without disruption from outsiders.

The risk of enforced disappearance, torture, and other ill-treatment significantly increases when detainees are held incommunicado in unofficial military detention. Enforced disappearances are defined under international law as the arrest or detention of a person by state officials or their agents followed by a refusal to acknowledge the deprivation of liberty, or to reveal the person’s fate or whereabouts. Enforced disappearances violate a range of fundamental human rights protected under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Thailand is a party.

The junta typically compels persons released from military detention to sign an agreement that infringes on their fundamental liberties, including agreeing not to make political comments, become involved in political activities, or travel overseas without the junta’s permission. Failure to comply with the agreement can result in a new detention, a sentence of two years in prison, or a fine of 40,000 baht (US$1,250). Those who fail to report to an NCPO summons also face arrest and prosecution in military court, which gives them no right to appeal the verdict.

“The junta’s pledges to respect human rights have proven meaningless,” Adams said. “General Prayuth should immediately order an end to arbitrary arrest and secret detention, and release all those being wrongfully held.”

Det är tydligen inte bara politiker som anses vara i behov av militärjuntans s.k attitydjustering, även denne journalist Pravit Rojanaphruk ifrån The Nation har drabbats av detta, han greps i söndags och hålls också fången på hemlig ort, Pravit är 48 år och känd som en kritiker av både militärregimen och LM-lagarna.

Pravit Rojanaphruk, a veteran journalist and provocative critic of the Thai military from The Nation newspaper, has been detained incommunicado since Sunday.

 

Pravit on Sunday 2pm reported himself to the military at the 1st Army Area after two military officers on Saturday went to his house with the intention to detain him, but did not find him. He was accompanied by Pawinee Chumsri, a lawyer from the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights, and Pokpong Lawansiri, a human rights officer from the United Nation,

 

“Two military officers went to my place, but I wasn’t there. The junta has my phone number, why didn’t they call me? I will never flee!” tweeted Pravit on @Pravitr twitter account on Saturday 2pm.

 

Pawinee told Prachatai that on Saturday 4pm the military told her that Pravit was taken to another Army base, but did not reveal the location. The military also did not reveal the purpose and the period of the detention.

 

The lawyer observed that the overnight detention is unnecessary. If the military found that Pravit had been too bold in criticizing the junta, a reprimand in a meeting could be enough.

 

In May 2014, only two days after the coup d’etat, the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) summoned Pravit and detained him at an Army base in western Ratchaburi Province for seven days.

 

Pravit, 48, has been a fierce critic against the military, the establishment and Article 112 or the lese majeste law.

Bra fråga, själv blev jag oerhört förvånad över att en medarbetare ifrån just denna tidning  har gripits av militären och nu hålls på hemlig ort för s.k "attitydjustering".

The Nation är ju landets i särklass kuppvänligaste och juntavänliga tidning, men tydligen finns det någon motståndare till diktatur där också.

Jag väljer nog att gå på teorin att du har haft fel-som vanligt. Bara för att man är motståndare till den elitistiska Shinawatraklanens rofferi betyder det inte att man automatiskt är positiv till varken militärkupper eller diktaturer. I den riktiga världen så finns det nyanser, något du borde utforska....

Nu kräver The Nation att han släpps omedelbart också-har de inte fattat att de ska stödja militären fullt ut?

The military officials have held in custody Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan on 8 September 2015, and Mr. Karoon Hosakul on 10 September 2015. To this, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), told the press that the detention of the two persons was relating to their outspoken critique of the government’s performance. Of late, a senior reporter of The Nation, Mr. Pravit Rojanaphruk, has been deprived of his liberty as well on 13 September 2015.

TLHR deems the summoning of political dissents and their detention without legal ground is an unconstitutional act and a breach of Article 9 of the ICCPR. We urge the government or the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to;

1.  Stop summoning a person to report themselves and stop detaining a person simply because of their political criticisms or their criticisms of the performance of the government. It is an act of persecution against political dissents and an unlawful act indeed.

2.      Revoke the Head of the NCPO’s Order no. 3/2558 since it is not necessary to be implemented and stop invoking power as per Section 44 of the Interim Constitution and release the persons being held in custody immediately and unconditionally.

3.  Political criticisms and criticisms of the performance of either the government or the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) if carried in good faith are a right that can be exercised according to the Constitution and ICCPR.

Justice is the foundation of a society and democracy shall not flourish without justice.

Prachatai reports that The Nation’s journalist Pravit Rojanaphruk has been detained by the military dictatorship.

The Nation has demanded his immediate release.

Update: Prachatai (linked above) reports that Pravit “has been detained incommunicado since Sunday.”

Pravit was also detained just after the 2014 military coup.

As shown in the snip below, two military officers visited his house on Saturday to detain, but could not locate him. He tweeted: “Two military officers went to my place, but I wasn’t there. The junta has my phone number, why didn’t they call me? I will never flee!”

He reported to the military on Sunday, “accompanied by Pawinee Chumsri, a lawyer from the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights, and Pokpong Lawansiri, a human rights officer from the United Nations.”

Soon after, his lawyer was told that Pravit had been removed to “another Army base, but did not reveal the location. The military also did not reveal the purpose or the period of detention.”

Just nu har militären i Thailand två PTP politiker i förvar, en av dessa är en parlamentsledamot vid namn Karun Hosakuloch och en f.d minister Pichai Naripthaphan, dessa båda har nu förts bort till en hemlig plats (förmodligen en militärbas) för det som juntan kallar "attitydjustering", detta efter det att dessa båda har uttryckt sig kritiskt mot NCPO.

Juntaledaren General Prayuth Chan-o-cha kommenterade  detta den 10 September 2015, han tyckte att "direkt kritik" mot regeringen (läs juntan) skadar nationen och att detta inte kan att tolereras.

Han ser ju ändå ganska glad ut med tanke på att han nu för sjunde gången ska hämtas in för elchocker i pungen etcetera.

Censuren verkar inte vara så avskräckande som vissa vill få det till.

Inget tyder väl ännu på att politiker och journalister som hålls fångna på hemlig militärförläggning för s.k "attitydjustering" torteras om man ska tro på media, det som människorättsorganisationerna och dom gripna kritiserar är nog mer juntans totala förbud mot all tänkbar kritik och själva systemet med "attitydjustering" på hemlig plats utan kontakt med omvärlden och utan rätt till advokathjälp.

Det här med Juntans användning av s.k "attitydjustering" känns ju lite som ett resultat av deras samarbete med Nord Korea eller vad som tragiskt nog förekom under Sovjet tiden och inget som man förväntar sig av ett land som Thailand.

Sen har ju i.o.f.s Juntaledaren själv hotat med hårdare tag om dessa fortsätter att uttrycka sig kritiskt mot Juntan eller dess NCPO, om dessa hårdare tag kommer att innebära längre straff och kanske t.o.m tortyr får väl framtiden utvisa.

Ja nu är jag inte tillräckligt insatt i det thailändska skolsystemet men tror du verkligen "attitydjustering" kommer läras ut till de få nordkoreanska utbytesstudenterna?

Vilket som verkar det ju inte särskilt avskräckande om man för sjunde gången åker på det och ändå bara skrattar åt det.

Att kunna skratta åt juntaledarens bestraffningar offentligt tyder, enligt mig, på att straffen du försöker få folk tro händer (elchocker i testiklarna etc) bara är trams.
