Roade mig med att googla lite och kan inte hitta nått som denne professor skrivit om Thailand, men väl en hel del om Burma och Indonesien. När det gällde den unge thailändske lektorn, Prajak Kongkirati, hittade jag inte ett enda citat från honom om den senaste konflikten. Han hade däremot massor med åsikter om PAD.
Prajak Kongkirati, a lecturer in political science at Thammasat University, said the PAD leaders must shoulder the burden. They should themselves not set any conditions which could lead to clashes.
"Civil disobedience should mean disobeying with civility. The leaders should face up to the arrest warrants issued by the appropriate authorities, like when the Assembly of the Poor and other activists did when they laid siege to Government House or Parliament. When Gandhi violated the law, he allowed himself to be detained by the police," said Mr Prajak.

Thammasat University political scientist Prajak Kongkirati was more sympathetic to the government, saying the current administration could not be compared to those under Indonedia's Suharto or Ferdinand E Marcos of the Philippines which ruled their countries with an iron fist for decades.
"At the moment, many academics claim to be impartial but their statements seem as if they are exploiting the PAD's actions to oust a government they disliked," he said.
Prajak also called on academics to perform their role as the conscience of society in providing a body of knowledge.

Political scientist Prajak Kongkirati of Thammasat University said the PAD core leaders' decision to lead thousands of demonstrators to camp inside Government House was a misplaced and illegal strategy which showed their intention was to goad the Samak government into using force against civilians.
"They should not use these people as bargaining tools because this could lead to further violence," he said, adding the nine PAD core leaders, who are wanted on arrest warrants for breaking into government offices, know the police will be cautious about arresting them as long as they are guarded by thousands of demonstrators.
If the authorities exercise force, PAD can claim justification for the elected government to be turfed out of office through undemocratic means, he said.

Prajak Kongkirati, a political analyst at Thammasat University, said PAD leaders should make the safety of their supporters the first priority and call off the protest. Those injured and killed to date have been ordinary people, not PAD leaders.
