Polisen hävdar inte oväntat att demonstranterna har brutit mot lagen och att dom skyldiga kommer att straffas.

Protesters occupying the Budget Bureau and the Office of the Auditor General at the Finance Ministry are in gross violation of the Criminal Act, Pol Maj Gen Piya Uthayo, spokesman for the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) has warned.

Pol Maj Gen Piya said anti-government rallies at different spots in the capital city had passed off without serious incident, apart from at the Finance Ministry.

According to reports, the power supply to the Budget Bureau and the Office of the Auditor General have been cut off, he said, while some of the protesters went into the two offices and told officials and other staff to leave the buildings and move their vehicles out of the premises.

This was a gross violation of Section 215 of the Criminal Code and core members of the protest led by former Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban would be subject to punishment in line with the law, Pol Maj Gen Piya said.  

They would also face further charges if found to have committed other offences by the authorities, he added.

In an earlier statement, Pol Maj Gen Piya said protesters from three groups - Democrat party supporters, the Network of Students and People for Thailand's Reform (NSPTR) and the People's Democratic Force to Overthrow Thaksinism (Pefot) - had been carrying out activities separately but with the same objective of pressuring the authorities.

Democrat-led protesters have invaded 13 government offices and television stations, Pefot protesters are on the moving toward areas restricted under the Internal Security Act, while NSPTR demonstrators are trying to occupy Rama V road.

Pol Maj Gen Piya said it was not necessary to ask for reinforcements from the military because the Royal Thai Police Office has 84 companies of police ready to handle the protesters.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday night invoked internal security laws in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakarn’s Bang Pli district and Pathum Thani’s Lardlumkaew district.

In a special TV broadcast, Yingluck said her government has no choice but to use the ISA after the anti-government protesters stepped up their protests by invading, seizing many government agencies and destroying the assets including the front gates. The protesters also cut off electricity and water supplies in those buildings, the moves that would affect officials and people in general.
