Wikileaks och Thailand

Jag har ägnat en del tid att läsa i den databas med dokument som Wikileaks släppte denna vecka. Det finns massor av mer eller mindre intressanta detaljer.

Egentligen är det inte ens "Nyheter i Thailand" eftersom det är historiebeskrivning.

Vill modsen flytta tråden till annan plats så har jag inga som helst problem med det.

"Former TRT members and others say that many party members are sticking with TRT largely for the money; we hear that the party members are discouraged"

"We keep asking why more TRT members aren\'t heading for the exit. One member who did bolt, Dr. Likhit Thirawekhin, is already promoting his own new party. He was a political science professor at Thammasat and former deputy interior minister; he was a TRT MP from the party list in the last parliament. He told us, \"My wife said that the honor of our family had increased significantly\" after his resignation from TRT. His former students had written to him asking him to leave the party. He had gotten tired of the indignity of being in a party that permitted members no real freedom to contribute to party policy. He says he is not concerned if his new party (Force of the Thai Land) does not win many seats in parliament; he wants \"to be a force\" for clean and responsible government"

In the aftermath of the red cancellation of the planned Bangkok rally and PM Abhisit\'s cancellation of his Chiang Mai trip, which forestalled a red protest rally there, Thaksin associates put out renewed public feelers for a deal to end red protests in exchange for Thaksin avoiding jail time and recovering his frozen assets. While former PM SecGen Niphon Promphan confirmed earlier discussions of the parameters of such a deal to Ambassador in September, Niphon stressed that Thaksin would have to serve at least a token period in jail for such a deal to work, and that bottom line appeared to be a deal breaker (ref C). DPM Suthep reiterated this state of play to Ambassador November 27, further alleging that Thaksin aimed to use red-shirt protests to apply pressure on the King to grant him a pardon.

Enligt detta så skulle Thaksin använda rödskjortorna för att tvinga fram att hans pengar skulle frisläppas och att han skulle slippa fängelse.

Inom underrättelsetjänsten används begreppet "nyttiga idi*ter" om sådana som utför vissa ärenden utan att förstå de verkliga motiven bakom. Kanske man kan säga om rödskjortorna här?
