Hittade en diskussion i Bangkok Post med en något annan vinkling än förväntat.
Den börjar med en klagosång över de gällande viseringsregler...
i dont not why Thailand will kick now out thousands of foreigner that life and spend much money in Thailand.
i be now 2 year here - all the time with a offical tourist visa and not only with the visa on arrival stamp. i spend in this 2 year about 3 million thai baht and not work any minute here - i can not work anymore. thai embassy say before this is the visa that i need - for the other one i be too young and not married with a thai woman.
Tycker jag känner igen argumenten, men läs vad bl.a. Somchai svarar:
Bravo ! I am happy to learn that Thailand is finally going to take action and get rid of the thousands of foreigners who take advantage of our country by not paying any taxes. Also our kids will have a better future not being tought English by some "native farang" without any qulifications. If they want to stay and work here then apply for a work permit and pay taxes, simple!

The new rules are good for the national interest of Thailand . Each government in the world is due to take what it thinks best to its people and nation.
That step was so essential to get rid of impostor foreigners who're overstaying and doing God knows what.
Besides, if you want to live in Thailand, there are many lawful channels to get the permit. I've never seen a more flexible regulations than those in Thailand. They can deal with all the cases to the satisfaction of all types of foreign residents.
