INDONESIA BLOWS UP VESSELS

Indonesia’s Marine and Fishery Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has exploded at least 81 fishing boats at once on Saturday, April 1, throughout the country’s waters – 18 of them were owned by Filipinos.
A special maritime task force known as Satgas 115 had dominated the operations against foreign fishing boats including 18 from Philippines, 46 Vietnamese, 11 Malaysian ships, one from China and 6 of the vessels belonged to Indonesian fishing companies were blown up.
The Straits Times quoted Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti who called it a victory for Indonesia’s war against illegal fishing saying “there was a time when thousands of foreign vessels came freely to steal our fish, but now they will know, Indonesia will overcome this crime.”
A total of 317 fishing boats were destroyed in the sea from October 2014 to April this year. The largest number was those of Vietnam (142 units), the Philippines (76 units), Thailand (21 units), Malaysia (49 units), Indonesia (21 units), Papua New Guinea (2 units), China (1 unit) , Belize (1 unit), stateless (4 units).
