  24 Confirmed cases of Swine Flu here in Pattaya.

We can now confirm that Swine Flu has arrived here in Pattaya. This devastating news was confirmed in a press conference held at Pattaya City Hall on Thursday by Khun Wittaya, Thailand’s Public Health Minister. He confirmed that a total of 24 cases of Swine Flu have been detected and all those infected are now under strict quarantine to ensure that the disease can be controlled. 17 infected people are staff members of the Star Dice Discotheque in Naklua. The venue was checked following the news that Taiwanese Tourists who returned home after a trip to Pattaya had gone to the discotheque during their stay here in Pattaya. A further 7 infected people were either close friends or family members of the 17 staff members. Over the next few days other large venues including discotheques and pubs will be checked to ensure that the disease does not spread throughout the City. If you do notice symptoms of the flu on yourself or others, you or they must go to Banglamung Hospital which is the local dedicated disease control center. The Public Health Minister also urged all Pattaya residents and Tourists to wear surgical masks for the foreseeable future and we can also confirm that the Star Dice Discotheque in Naklua will be closed until further notice and any other venues affected by the virus will also be given closure orders.

Vår sons skola är stängd i 1 vecka, pga Svininfluenserisken, antagligen en bra åtgärd.

Ingen på hans skola är misstänkt smittad men det har förekommit fall på andra skolor i närheten.

hoppas det går över snabbt, men hellre på den säkra sidan, det har tydligen förekommit dödsfall i Thailand pga influensan.

Tja säg det? Men vem vill bli liggandes sjuk på en Thailandsresa?

Lär väl vara som en "Asiatinfluensa" mer eller mindre, en för övrigt frisk och stark person klarar sig med någon veckas feber och allmän värk enligt expertisen. Det konstiga som de vise männen kommit fram till är att "svinpesten" skulle slå hårdare mot yngre än äldre personer!

Chikungunya continues to rise in Phuket

PHUKET: Chikungunya continues to spread in the province, with 694 confirmed cases in the island's official records. And the actual figure is probably far higher.

Phuket Provincial Health Office (PPHO) Director Dr Pongsawas Ratanasang confirmed that 669 Thais have received hospital treatment for the disease.

Dr Pongsawas said a further 25 cases, all foreigners, have also been treated: 17 Burmese, one Korean, one New Zealander, two Austrians, one Filipino, two Swedes and one Scot.

Thalang District is the highest risk area, followed by Kathu District and Phuket City.

Dr Pongsawas stressed that nobody has yet died of the disease. He expressed confidence the PPHO was succeeding in controlling its spread.

“The spread of the disease in Phuket is slowing down. I think we can have it under control within three months,” Dr Pongsawas said.

Dr Pongsawas said the actual number of cases was probably far higher, as many people with the disease treat themselves or visit clinics.

One woman in Thalang complained to a local cable television channel that despite frequent spraying of her home by authorities, every member of her household had been hit with the affliction.

Gazette staffer Fraser Morton, who is still recovering from the disease, said, “It’s a nasty, debilitating, uncomfortable and expensive fever to have. My first symptom was an extremely high fever that topped 40, followed by severe aching in my knees and lower back, as well as vomiting. I was admitted to hospital, put on a drip and pumped full of pain medication for two days.

“Three weeks on I still have pains in my lower back and knees, and have been told by my doctor this could last another month. My bill topped 16,000 baht at the international hospital where I stayed for two days,” said the Scotsman. 

Varför det slår hårdare mot yngre beror väl på att dom har för bra imunförsvar, som reagerar for snabbt.

Hur är det med de stackars grisarna ?

Jag vill minnas att för cirka 10 år sedan florerade någon form av smitta i Malaysia som spreds från svin till manniskor.

Kanske skulle varit tydligare - barnlakaren har pa Samitivej forklarade det sa idag. Forhoppningsvis kan man lite pa deras ord nar det galler detta.

Blir bara lite upphetsad av kärringen på bilden.

Däremot funderar man ju på hur i hela fridens namn någon normalt funtad människa kan medverka på en sån bild.

Antingen är kärringen utvecklingsstörd eller helt drogad.
