Vår relativt nyutnämnde ambassadör Staffan Herrström träffade idag PM Prayuth. På ambassadens FB-sida kan man läsa följande om mötet:
"On 13th of May, Ambassador Staffan Herrström met with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The meeting was part of the Ambassador’s introduction to Thailand as well as the Embassy’s political dialogue with cabinet members, public figures and institutions, media, civil society, and other stakeholders. The Ambassador was accompanied by colleagues from the Embassy.
The Ambassador recalled the longstanding relations between Thailand and Sweden, including the many Swedes who travel to Thailand for tourism. He touched upon Swedish experiences in areas like gender equality and road safety.
In the context of the meeting, Ambassador Herrström recalled the concerns already expressed by the Ambassadors of the European Union about the political situation in Thailand and at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the country. The Ambassador specifically highlighted the importance of freedom of expression and freedom of assembly so that also critical voices can be heard, not least in the context of the forthcoming referendum and for the return to democracy, including free and fair elections. In this context, he stressed Sweden’s recommendations to Thailand at the UPR, amongst them the amendment of the Computer Crimes Act."
Likaså igår träffade herr ambassadören Vice PM Prajin. Även då ska han ha pratat om Thailands "problem" med mänskliga rättigheter och yttrandefrihet. Åsikterna om huruvida han verkligen gjorde det går dock isär, allt enligt en artikel i dagens The Nation. I alla fall i den tryckta varianten, lite omformulerat på webben i efterhand...
