"Bangkok, 8 April 2012 (NNT) – The ruling Pheu Thai Party is confident that the public still believes that the country will still be able to achieve the ambitious goal of national reconciliation.
Pheu Thai Party deputy spokesman Jirayu Huangsap said that the ruling party has recently conducted a survey of public opinion related to the proposals made by the House Committee on national reconciliation.
Mr. Jirayu said that the survey results were derived through the network of 265 Pheu Thai MPs and more than 200 MP candidates.
He stated that 72 percent of the respondents believed that there would eventually be reconciliation in Thailand, while only 12 percent was unsure and another 9 percent did not expect such a scenario would ever happen.
The survey also found that 80 percent of the people said both sides of the conflict are to blame for the failure to achieve reconciliation as no one is willing to meet halfway, while 37 percent said it has always been an ego that hinders all reconciliatory efforts.
When asked about the roles of the King Prajadhipok's Institute in this pivotal move, 82 percent believed the KPI failed to stand behind its research, while 76 percent suggested the Institute to be neutral. Forty-five percent of the respondents said that other institutes should be asked to conduct additional studies on this issue"
