The Pheu Thai coalition government passed the examination after its first year in office, Issara Boonyang, chairman of the Housing Estate Business Association, said on Thursday.
Speaking at a forum on, “Yingluck government in the eyes of administrators: It passes or fails the exam”, Mr Issara said the government had passed the exam by implementing policies to support the property development business.
The policies included the tax incentive for first-time home buyers and low rate housing loans that had helped people to be able to own a house, he added.
Mr Issara suggested the government reintroduce the mortgage and asset transfer fees reduction scheme once again to further boost the property development business and other related industries.
He said property development has an effect on several other businesses, such as cement, steel rods, furniture and home decoration materials.
He said the great flood late last year severely affected horizontal housing construction projects.
The launching of new single detached houses and townhouse projects had dropped from last year by as much as 40 per cent, while the number of new condominium and serviced apartment projects were up 60 per cent, he said.
Mr Issara wanted the government to regularly provide information on the progress of its 350 billion baht water management and flood control projects to create confidence among investors.
Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, said he also agreed that the government had passed the examination for its effort to stimulate tourism and to upgrade domestic aviation business.
The government had launched the phase 2 of the project to extend Suvarnnabhumi airport and a plan to re-use Don Mueang airport. The private sector expected Don Mueang would resume providing services on Oct 1 as planned, he added.
Paibul Nalintarangkul, chairman of the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organisations, took the same tone.
The government passed the examination for its performance over the past year on the back of a fact that the Stock Exchange of Thailand main index had increased by 20 per cent from the beginning of the year, Mr Paibul said.
An average daily trade value was 30 billion baht, which was a good level. Since the beginning of the year, as much as 70 billion baht foreign direct investment flew into Thailand. This reflected the fact the government had done a good job in the capital market sector, he added.
