Employee may get monthly allowance of Bt2,000

The Labour Ministry is planning to pay a monthly allowance of Bt2,000 to every employee earning less than Bt20,000 a month.

"This is a measure to help low-income earners," Labour Minister Phaithoon Kaeothong said Monday, "But the employee must be a member of the Social Security Network".

Currently, the network has 9.3 million members.

According to the plan, the Bt2,000 monthly allowance will be given for one year. The implementation will require a budget of around Bt19billion.

"If the Social Security Office board agrees to the plan, we will ask the Cabinet to approve the budget," Phaithoon said.

In Thailand, the Compensation Fund was the first step of Thailand’s social security to provide security to employee in the event of accident or illness resulting from work performance. The first social security fund occurred in Thailand in 1972 under the management of the Office of the Compensation Fund, in the Department of Labor, pursuant to the Notification of the Revolutionary Party No 103 dated 16 March 1972. In the first year of providing protection, it covered specifically the places of business with upward of 20 employees located within Bangkok Metropolis proper. Since the social security coverage was gradually extended to every province throughout the country on 1 July 1988 until the enactment of the Social Security Act B.E. 2533 (1990); Thailand has had the full-fledged social security system under which the employee will be protected in terms of accident or illness, disability and death, either related or unrelated to work performance; including childbirth, child assistance, old age and unemployment as is the case in other countries.

Nu har "The Nation" ändrat sig, nu är det THB 14 000 som gäller som gräns för

att få THB 2 000.konstigt.

Low-income earners are now entitled to one-off Bt2,000 allowance from the government, Deputy Government Spokesman Puttipong Punnakan said Tuesday.

"The Cabinet has already approved Bt18.9billion budget for the payment," Puttipong said.

According to the approved plan, only employees or government officials with monthly income of no more than Bt14,000 will get the special allowance.

Labour Minister Phaithoon Kaeothong Tuesday said there were about 8.01 million employees in this income range.

Other eligible income earners are government officials.

Social Security Office secretary general Pan Wannapinij said his office would develop a system to facilitate the payment of Bt2,000 to each eligible person.

"We plan to make the payment by transferring the money to their bank accounts," Pan said.

Nu har även Bangkok Post tagit in nyheten och tydligen är det THB 14 000 per mån som gäller som övre gräns för

att komma i åtnjutande av "bidraget".
