Thailand's government sports authority says it has struck an in-principle deal to host a Formula One race in Bangkok in 2014, with negotiations ongoing about the hosting fee, according to a report in The Nation newspaper. Kanokphand Chulakasem, governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, was quoted as saying "Formula One has decided to include Thailand in its 2014 season calendar" with a race slated for November.

He said the government will fund 60 per cent of the cost, with the rest coming from sponsors including Red Bull —half Thai-owned —and the Singha brewing group. The SAT governor said talks were proceeding between F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and representatives of Red Bull chief Chalerm Yoovidhya.

"Once the negotiations are complete, we will bring this before the cabinet for discussion and approval," Kanokphand was quoted as saying. "We will sign a deal only after we get the nod from the government."

He said the hosting fee would not be more than that paid by Singapore in its just-completed contract, which he said was 1.2 billion baht ($39.2 million) per year.

Areas reportedly under consideration for a circuit include the historic Rajdamnoen government district in central Bangkok, the city's Klong Toei port area or the northern suburb of Muang Thong Thani. Kanokphand said there had been feasibility talks with F1 officials about the prospective areas. AP

Inte mycket nytt sen den första tråden om detta.

Men visst, det hade varit kul. MPR kanske kunde boka en halv läktare då? Mängdrabatt?

Fast Bernie är en tuff rackare, många som försökt.

Moskva påstod att de hade ett avtal för ett par år sen och hade börjat bygga en bana. Blev inget.

Ett rykte är att han var i Las Vegas för att undersöka möjligheterna där för några år sen men blev biten i näsan av en vakthund. Blev inget.

London lade fram ett seriöst förslag förra året. Blev inget.

Dubai byggde en bana och påstod att de hade en deal för några år sen. Blev inget.

Som F1 fantast hoppas jag att det blir av.

Vi som även gillar rally bla, såg att Ford inte kör nästa år, inte heller Mini och Sitoträng verkar osså balla ur! Vem blir kvar sedan?

Thailands överklasslynglar kör F1 på Sukhumvit varje dag med sina Ferrari, sponsrade av Red Bull.

Kan meddela att nästa race blir om en månad på National Stadium i Bangkok, ett dödsrace där endast segraren överlever, tyvärr är biljetterna redan slutsålda men det finns ju alltid svartabörsen.

“We hope that this sentence will bring some semblance of justice to the victims of these three high-society criminals,” read the judge in his ruling. “We also hope that the public will find it highly entertaining.”

Deputy PM Chalerm Yoobumruang told reporters that this was a step forward for the country and that the Thai people should celebrate the verdict as an improvement in democracy.

“This bloody, vengeful spectacle of three rich kids killing each other will show the world that Thailand is a democracy, and that powerful connections and money won’t save you from justice here,” he said.

“Unless,” he quickly added, “you shoot a cop in the face at a nightclub. That’s totally different.”
