One dead, 47 injured in plaza fire

At least one person died and about 47 were injured from the fire at Sua Pa Plaza on Bangkok's Charoen Krung road. The fire broke out on Sunday night and fire fighters were able to control the flames by about 20 minutes.
The deceased was identified as Sa-nguan Saenkaew, aged 45, and rescue crews on Monday morning found his body on the seventh floor of the shopping and residential plaza.
According to reports, mobile phone shops were opened on the seventh floor, and mobile phones and gadgets added fuel to the fire.
Deputy national police chief Jongrak Chuthanont said the incident could be an accident from a short circuit. He said it could as well be an arson case, as the insurance coverage for the building is about 200 million baht. The fire could also be ignited because of malfeasance relating to unsafe maintenance, he added.
Meanwhile, the traffic conditions around Charoen Krung and Sua Pa roads were very congested and commuters should avoid using them.
