Diktatorn kanske stannar längre vid makten?

I dagens Bangkok Post kan man läsa om fler skrämmande uttalanden ifrån Juntaledaren General Prayuth, vad sägs om detta att han är beredd att isolera Thailand ifrån omvärlden om det behövs, inte precis ett uttalande vare sig inhemska eller utländska investerare vill höra och hur tas det emot i den demokratiska delen av världen?

In a flurry of anger at people opposed to him, the coup leader used some demeaning words in parliament for which he later apologised saying those words were not appropriate for that venue.

To make matters worse, he ended up saying things that not many would have wanted to hear, especially not foreign investors, the expatriate community or even the international community.

In his frenzy to rein in those who oppose his rule, Gen Prayut said he would isolate the country from the world if that is what is required to get Thailand back on track.

Little does he realise that such words spoken by a coup leader who has absolute power under Section 44 are not going to be taken lightly by anyone, be it a Thai citizen or a Thai businessmen, let alone foreign investors and members of the Thai community.

Today, Thailand is very much interlinked to the global community through economic ties or otherwise and it is not just foreigners who have been investing in this country -- Thai companies have also made their mark abroad.

Gen Prayut's plans to isolate the country, even if they were only words, do not bode well for anyone.
