Blir väl lätt så när man uppfattar den egna personen som mer intressant än de verkliga händelser som man diskuterar..

The hand that rocks the Cradle

Every society has its superstitions _ supernatural, paranormal and/or extra-terrestrial. Whether it's the hand of a god that creates so-and-so, the spirit that possesses so-and-so or the alien that abducts so-and-so _ superstitions are meant to explain the unexplainable, but they often pose even more questions and problems.
In Thai politics we have two explanations for the unexplainable. They are used interchangeably, and they too often pose even more questions and problems.
Dear readers, allow me to present The Third Hand and The Invisible Hand - and since they are used interchangeably, let's just call it The Hand.
When bullets whiz through or bombs explode into the air _ when seemingly man-made calamities have been perpetrated and no one is willing to take responsibilities for the cause and/or shoulder the consequences _ the culprit is The Hand.
When utterly inexplicable and unfathomable decisions are made _ the culprit is The Hand.
When completely predictable decisions are made, but the decisions are absolutely unsavory, perverse and corrupted _ the culprit is The Hand.
Let's be absolutely clear on one thing however, The Hand is not of this Earth. It's the thing that is supernatural, paranormal and/or extra-terrestrial _ or all of the above.
Because the human mind is limited and finite, it is impossible for us to comprehend the infinite or the other- worldly _ which is why this week I have to consult the crystal ball in order to see how The Hand will rock this cradle we call Thailand.
You have to fight black magic with black magic.
When academics, critics and even ambassadors asked for my opinion about the next general election, and what cards the Democrat Party and Puea Thai Party will play, my reply was: ''Wait a second, don't jump ahead. First let's see if there will be a Democrat party by next year.''
Many experts and sources in the know have told me that there is a good chance the Democrat Party will be dissolved for either accepting illegal donations or misuse of electoral funds, or both.
Why is that? No one can quite give the answer.
So I looked into my crystal ball and the answer was: The Hand wants the yellow shirts, the New Politics Party, to rule Thailand.
In order to understand the picture the crystal ball has painted, we must make one important assumption: That is, matters of national significance (not all, but many) in Thailand _ whether judicial, governmental, military, constitutional or otherwise _ are not the decision of judicial, governmental, constitutional, military or otherwise _ but they are decisions of The Hand.
If we were to accept this assumption _ and it's merely an assumption, not a proven fact _ then we can move on. If not, please stop reading.
For example, the crystal ball explained that when the Thai Rak Thai Party was banned and the Democrat Party wasn't, it was because The Hand wanted the TRT party banned, but not the Democrat Party. It had nothing to do with the court.
So the question: ''Will the court ban the Democrats?'' The answer is: ''It has nothing to do with the court and everything to do with The Hand.'' That's why this column has nothing to do with the court and whatever decision it may render, but everything to do with black magic.
According to the crystal ball, there are three scenarios for Thailand: First, a Thailand run by the Democrat Party _ moderate, upholding the status quo but at the same time, slowly changing the status quo _ at least that's the intention.
Second, a Thailand run by the Puea Thai Party _ a Thaksinista vision of corporate absolutism and populism _ and, quite possibly, vengeance metted out to the established elites.
Third, a Thailand by the New Politics Party _ a limited democracy, upholding elite rule and the status quo.
The crystal ball told me that The Hand is none too happy with how the Democrats have been handling things. They had their chances; they have not failed, but nor have they impressed.
However, the New Politics Party meeting the The Hand can be likened to the inquisition in the church _ jlfanatical devotion and you will burn at the stake if you don't conform _ in a much lesser degree, of course.
The crystal ball said to me: ''The Hand will want whoever is most likely to carry out the vision of Thailand for The Hand.'' I replied with a question: ''But wouldn't that be short-sighted and dangerous?''
The crystal ball answered: ''I also see that in your column, you will begin by stating how the supernatural, the paranormal and the extra-terrestrial pose more questions and problems.'' To which I shrugged and retorted: ''You are very wise, crystal ball.''
I then added: ''Can The Hand trust the News Politics Party?'' The crystal ball replied: ''As long as mutual benefits are assured _ after all, we are talking politics.''
I continued: ''I don't think it's likely that the New Politics Party can win the general election.'' To which the crystal ball explained: ''Neither the Democrats, Puea Thai nor New Politics have to win the election. They just have to win Newin Chidchob and the Bhumjaithai party.''
''Don't forget,'' The Hand cautioned, ''the popular perception is that the country is divided into red and yellow, and since the yellow hasn't quite been in the picture, everything that is wrong currently, either the red or the Abhisit government gets the blame. The yellow sits pretty. Don't underestimate the New Politics. In the provinces, the anti-red don't wear blue, they wear yellow.''
I was still puzzled: ''But can The Hand really dissolve the Democrats and work magic for the New Politics?'' The crystal ball confessed: ''I can't see whether The Hand will succeed or fail, only that The Hand will try. For we must understand, The Hand's grip isn't what it used to be.''
''But what if Newin takes the whole thing,'' I blurted out. The crystal ball shrugged and smiled (yes, my crystal ball has human characteristics) and said: ''The picture is still a bit hazy on that.''
''This, however, I will tell you,'' the crystal ball continued. ''You mere mortals may not be able to comprehend the supernatural, the paranormal and/or the extra-terrestrial _ that which is not of this earth _ but you can comprehend the political game. So it's better to know the game, than to be ignorant of it.''

Jag är inte buddist, men jag tror att det skulle gå mycket bättre då för Thailand.

Seh Daeng's driver held at Army base
The personal chauffeur of the late red-shirt military strategist Maj-General Khattiya Sawasdipol is being held at an undisclosed army camp for interrogation over his alleged involvement in anti-government protests from March to May, Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tharit Pengdit said yesterday.
Jakchalat "Pol" Khongsuwan, 37, could be detained for up to 30 days without the presence of lawyers or relatives before formal charges had to laid against him, Tharit said. DSI officers had joined in the questioning and care of Jakchalat at the camp, he said.
A source at the DSI said the authorities had followed Jakchalat's movements continuously after the anti-government rally ended until he was arrested in Maha Sarakham. He is expected to provide useful and in-depth information.
The DSI has not filed terrorist charges yet because, if he were charged, he could be in police custody for up to 48 hours only, the source said. Then he would have to be brought to apply for detention at a court prison and his lawyer or relatives' presence would be required throughout the questioning, the source said.
Whether Jakchalat will be protected by the DSI as witness for its terrorism case or not would depend on his testimony, which would have to be useful and in line with circumstantial evidence, the source said.
Jakchalat was arrested - and released on bail by the Criminal Court - on March 8, along with six other suspects including Maj-General Khattiya, for violating the Firearms Act and colluding in an attempt to harbour the wanted man Pornwat Thongsomboon.
Pornwat was charged with using electronic media to incite unrest and threatening public order after uploading a video clip to YouTube, which the authorities said was "disruptive of public order".

A security source said Mr Jakchalat was often seen with Maj Gen Khattiya.
He looked after Maj Gen Khattiya's financial transactions, including alleged weapons purchases. Security agencies have asked the DSI to make Mr Jakchalat a witness in terrorism cases against red shirt leaders because he was not connected to the red shirt guards or the black-clad militia.
The DSI would base its decision on whether to list Mr Jakchalat as its witness on the information he reveals to investigators.
If his information could lead to the arrest of key people in terrorism cases, he could be listed as a DSI witness, said the source

Yellow-shirt protester gets suspended jail term for slamming truck at policemen
Published on August 16, 2010
A yellow-shirt protester Monday got a suspended jail term for slamming his pick-up truck at five policemen in front of Parliament on October 7 2008.
The Criminal Court found Preecha Tricharoon, 53, guilty of clashing his vehicle at five policemen with intent to kill during the crackdown on protesters led by the People' s Alliance for Democracy in front of Parliament.
The court initially sentenced Preecha to three years in jail for trying to kill state officials.
But the court believes Preecha did it out of sudden rage as he was injured by police so the court suspended the jail term for two years and required him to report to probation officials for a year.
Preecha was also ordered to do a community service for 48 hours.
