David Thompson is an Australian chef, restaurateur and cookery writer, known for his skill and expertise in Thai cuisine.

He made his name at Darley Street Thai in Sydney, opened on his return from several years living and working in Bangkok. He used to run Sailors Thai (opened 1995) in that city, and the Michelin starred [1] Nahm (opened 2001) in London's Halkin Hotel - the first Thai restaurant to gain this award.

Thompson has also written a book. Aharn Thai or Thai Food is published by Pavilion Books and is a comprehensive account of Thai Cuisine, covering its history and role in society, as well as numerous recipes and menus.

His latest book is called "Thai Street Food" and it is a collection of his favourite 100 recipes of the street. A more comprehensive collection is to follow.
