Terror attacks in Midanao, Bangkok and Jakarta are linked: Malaysia DPM

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Thursday that the recent terror attacks in Mindanao, Bangkok and Jakarta are linked to the killing of Malaysian Islamic State terrorist Muhammad Wanndy Jedi, New Straits Times Online reported on Thursday.

The public, he said, should not take the incidents overseas lightly since they could easily occur in Malaysia if authorities are not cautious and if preventive measures are not in place.

Zahid said police and counterterrorism department are on high alert following the attacks in Machester and Jakarta. Plainclothes officers are patrolling several hotspots.

He noted that Malaysia’s intelligence unit has identified Katibah Nusantara, a Malay archipelago unit linked to the IS operating in the region.

The deputy prime minister added that Malaysia is working closely with neighbouring countries in information sharing and is cooperating with Interpol and Aseanpol to combat terrorism.

Det är ju bra att de har sån kontroll på sina anhängare att de vet att det inte är relaterat till de röda.

Ska bli intressant vad för bevis de har att lägga fram, erkännaden ger jag inte mycket för.

Sen skulle Lord Voldemorts militärguru Panlop Pinnmanee vara involverad så tror jag att det hade varit mycket proffsigare utfört och även han hade nog dragit sig i det längsta för att attackera ett sjukhus.

Men de som genomförde det kanske offrades som "kanonmat" av Lord Voldemort för att sända ett meddelande till Prayuth, vi finns fortfarande kvar, vi finns inom armén utöver poliskåren och vi drar oss inte för att slå till där du minst anar det?

‘We’ve captured real culprit behind Bangkok explosions’

Court approves arrest warrant for retired engineer who reportedly has confessed.

A RETIRED electrical engineer has admitted that he was responsible for three bomb explosions in Bangkok earlier this year and three more in 2007 “because he disliked the military”, authorities said yesterday.

National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda said he was “rather confident” the right culprit had been arrested. “We have sufficient evidence to prosecute him,” he said.

The suspect was identified as Wattana Pummares, 61, who previously worked for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand as an engineer. He was arrested on Wednesday and detained by the military.

Wattana, his wife, and another woman close to him, have been detained at different military facilities in Bangkok. Due to a post-coup rule, the military has the power to detain suspects in security-related offences for up to seven days

DNA shows Watana a serial bomber

Watana Pumret is seen entering Phramongkutklao Hospital where he plants a bomb that finally got him arrested.

A DNA test of the chief suspect in the Phramongkutklao Hospital bombing has confirmed his involvement in that attack as well as two of three prior bombing incidents in Bangkok, national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda said yesterday.

However the non-match findings suggest more people were involved in the blasts, he said.

Watana Pumret, a 62-year-old retired engineer who was detained on Wednesday night, faces five warrants in connection with the Bangkok blasts.

They took place outside Major Cineplex Ratchayothin on April 9, 2007; outside the old Government Lottery Office (GLO) on April 5 of this year; near the National Theatre on May 15; and at the Phramongkutklao Hospital on May 22. The warrants also relate to the discovery of explosives in Mr Watana's house in the capital's Bang Khen district on Thursday.

Speaking after leading the interrogation of Mr Watana from Friday night to yesterday morning, Pol Gen Chakthip told the public Mr Watana is the suspect the police have been chasing for the series of bombings.

He was among those considered a person of interest in the probe into the attack on the hospital, which left 25 people injured.

He became a suspect when the investigators obtained sufficient evidence to prove a link between him and the bombing.

A key piece of evidence that convinced investigators Mr Watana was the man they were looking for was some CCTV footage showing him wearing a hygiene mask and carrying a bag into the Wongsuwon Room of the hospital where the explosion went off, said Pol Gen Chakthip.
